Leadership Philosophy
"Success in luxury yachting isn't measured by the number of deals closed—it's measured by the relationships built, the markets opened, and the legacy created for the next generation of yachting enthusiasts."
Tim Bai
Chairman of Brand Strategy & Development
Senior Advisor - Yacht Sales & Market Development
In 2006, Tim Bai stood in a Shanghai showroom with China's first Azimut yacht—and no idea if anyone would buy it. The concept of yachting as a lifestyle was foreign, the market was non-existent, and the risks were immense. Ten years later, he had not only sold that yacht but over 120 more, building an industry from scratch and positioning Azimut as the undisputed market leader in Greater China. Tim is a true market maker, a pioneer who combines entrepreneurial grit with a deep understanding of the ultra-luxury consumer. Today, as a partner in private equity and a trusted advisor to UHNW families, he brings two decades of hard-won market intelligence and an unparalleled network to his role at GBAYCIA, where he is helping to shape the future of the Greater Bay Area's yachting ecosystem.

More Than Just a Résumé
The Market Maker: Building an Industry from Zero
When Tim Bai was handpicked by Azimut's founder, Paolo Vitelli, to lead the company's charge into China, he was given a mission with no blueprint. He didn't just have to sell a product; he had to create a culture. His first milestone—selling the first Azimut yacht into the mainland—was more than a transaction; it was a proof of concept that ignited an entire industry. Over the next decade, Tim systematically dismantled the barriers to entry. He built a 15-dealer network from the ground up, establishing branded service stations in key coastal cities. He implemented the rigorous SESTANTE training system, professionalizing a generation of yacht brokers and service technicians. But most importantly, he built relationships. By forging partnerships with exclusive marina clubs, elite membership organizations, and private banks, he didn't just sell yachts—he sold a lifestyle, positioning yachting as the ultimate aspiration for China's emerging class of ultra-high-net-worth individuals.
The Connector: Bridging China and the Global Yachting World
Tim's vision was always global. He understood that for China's yacht market to mature, it needed to be connected to the world's premier yachting ecosystems. Throughout his career, he has served as a vital bridge between East and West. At Azimut, he was the crucial link between the Italian headquarters and the realities of the Chinese market. Later, as co-founder of Golf Inn Investment Management, he forged powerful superyacht management and brokerage partnerships with global industry leaders Edmiston UK and Burgess. He became a key figure on the international regatta circuit, sponsoring the Hai Sports Sailing Regatta and serving as the China Partner for the prestigious Yacht Racing Forum. This ability to navigate different cultures and business environments makes him an invaluable asset in GBAYCIA's mission to establish the Greater Bay Area as a world-class, international yachting hub.
The Entrepreneur: From Superyachts to Private Equity
After conquering the yacht market, Tim set his sights on the next frontier: superyachts and integrated luxury experiences. As Chief Regional Manager for Lusben, the Azimut-Benetti Group's superyacht division, he was at the forefront of developing Asia's first dedicated superyacht marina project. This experience solidified his belief that the future of luxury lies in integrated ecosystems that combine marinas, real estate, and lifestyle services. This vision led him to co-found Golf Inn Investment Management, where he expanded into luxury golf villa development in Thailand. Today, his entrepreneurial journey has come full circle. As a partner at Origin Family Office, he now advises the same class of UHNW clients he once sold yachts to, guiding their private equity investments in the marine and luxury sectors. He is no longer just a market participant; he is a market shaper, leveraging capital and strategy to build the next generation of luxury ventures.
As a qualified golfer of the World Amateur Golf Championship (WAGC), Tim has always believed that the most important conversations happen not in the boardroom, but on the fairway. It is this philosophy of building genuine relationships, combined with an entrepreneur's eye for opportunity and a CEO's discipline for execution, that he brings to his advisory role at GBAYCIA. He is not just helping to build a market; he is helping to build a community, ensuring the Greater Bay Area's yachting future is as sustainable as it is successful.
