SHENZHEN – On June 6th, a delegation led by the Hong Kong Chief Advisor and core members of the Greater Bay Area Yacht and Cruise Industry Association (GBAYCIA) visited Sealand Technology for an in-depth exploration of their intelligent underwater ship cleaning robots. The visit focused on addressing the pressing hull cleaning challenges in Hong Kong waters and advancing the cause of sustainable maritime development in the Greater Bay Area.

The Environmental Challenge in Hong Kong’s Waters

As a global shipping hub and premier yachting destination, Hong Kong's waters are densely populated with vessels. Marine biofouling—the accumulation of organisms on a ship's hull—presents a significant challenge. It increases fuel consumption and carbon emissions while posing a potential threat to the delicate marine ecological balance of the GBA. Traditional cleaning methods are often inefficient, costly, and carry environmental risks.

Sealand Technology’s innovative approach directly addresses these pain points with its advanced underwater robotics.

A Technological Leap for Marine Sustainability

During the visit, the GBAYCIA delegation was given a comprehensive demonstration of Sealand Technology’s latest intelligent underwater cleaning robot system. The technology was highly praised for its precision, efficiency, and eco-friendly characteristics.

Key advantages of the system include:

  • Green Efficiency: The robot uses a purely physical cleaning method, reducing ship drag and contributing to significant fuel savings for the shipping industry.

  • Zero Ecological Harm: The process produces no wastewater or chemical discharge, safeguarding the habitats of precious local marine life, such as the Chinese white dolphin.

  • Customized for Hong Kong: The system is designed to adapt to the complex tides and narrow berths of Victoria Harbour, offering flexible, 24-hour service.

A Vision for a Greener, Smarter GBA

The GBAYCIA Hong Kong Chief Advisor gave high praise to the technology, stating: "Sealand Technology’s underwater robotics are astounding! This efficient, eco-friendly solution is precisely what the shipping industry in Hong Kong and the entire Greater Bay Area urgently needs. We look forward to deepening our cooperation to bring this advanced technology to Hong Kong waters, jointly raising ship maintenance standards and reducing environmental impact."
